It is well worth your time to visit the Vakif Eserleri, it is NOT on the tour bus route so crowds will not be a problem! We enjoyed all of the collection but in particular found the historic manuscripts particularly unique and fascinating. The artistry was quite amazing, the caligraphy and colours were mesmerizing. This museum is easily accessible, do go for a quiet but captivating break.

What a great place to see ancient doors, rugs, manuscripts. I learned a lot about the Ottoman Empire.

This small museum houses outstanding examples of prayer rugs, carpets, candlesticks, carved wood doors and manuscripts dating throughout Ottoman history all saved from mosques and religious institutions under the protection of foundations. The display is excellent and interactive: walk on the huge mosque carpets under glass, slide the panels of prayer rugs until you find three in row you like. The illluminated manuscript collection of deeds to property conveyed to various sultans is unbelievable. The building is beautiful as well and interesting. The only complaints are that in the artifact rooms the motion detector lighting turns off too quickly AND there is still not enough detailed explanation in english.
