The beach & town reminded me a bit of the old hippy days but cleaner & more accessible. There was a not-too-crowded beach with surfers, sun tanners, babies, locals & expats, the smell of patchouli & street meat along the town roadside, sarongs, high end & low end jewelry & clothing in the shops- perfect for a venture!

Super long beach. Almost flat. No development near beach so it has a very natural feel. My wife and I took morning walks in the shallow surf and watched the surfers way out in the curling waves, while an occasional group of horse back riders trotted by. It is a magical almost surreal place. If you surf it is amazing. I don't feel its a swimming or wading kind of beach. Easy walks, grass huts lining the bluffs. You can bring your cooler and hang out. Jog, walk, paddle board, surf, do yoga, or just catch some sun. Not crowded but not deserted so you will feel safe. Super friendly locals, and all sorts of beautiful people young and old, and beautiful dogs. It's clean too. Paradise.

I first visited this beach at high tide and was a little disappointed, but when I returned at low-tide it was entirely different. Stunning beach. Warm water. Close to shops and restaurants and hotels. A little busy.

We rented a house near Playa Pelada, the beach to the north of Playa Guiones. Pelada offers tranquility, beauty, expansive beach, and solitude, along with incredible sunsets. There was minimal surfing but I really liked the boogie boarding. Guiones is where you find top notch surfing, from beginners to advanced, and more people. It is about a mile long, with access to many different Guiones hotels and eateries. I took a morning run from Pelada to the end of Guiones and back each morning - 4 miles round trip, about. Great way to start the day. Along the run, I saw yogis, surfers, dog walkers, people meditating, and sun worshipers. At night, the beaches came alive with some beach performances, horses and riders, and sunset lovers. Definitely a world class beach!

Really fun waves, warm water and a pretty good vibe in the lineup. Not much more you can ask for. Consistent swell, easy takeoffs and long open faces at mid and high tide, barrels at low tide. Gorgeous.

The obvious; if you are a surfer, you love this beach. If not, you are bummed that there is NO SHADE whatsoever once the sun comes up. But early mornings, pre-sunrise, are brilliant for a long walk or jog. And sunsets are magnificent as well with the surfers silouteted against the orange sky

I stayed nearby at BlueSpirit, and I loved playa Guiones. The surf is perfect for beginners to intermediate as it's a consistent surf. The little town had lots of quaint little shops and delicious healthy food and smoothies. The smoothie shack at Harmony Hotel was delicious too. I will be back again!

Lovely place with serious crime issue. On my last 2 trips our rental homes were broken into and our belongings were stolen. The first time (nov/2014) immediately following the break-in we pursued in hopes of finding passports ect. in ditch, we actually came across thieves that had our bags and bikes. In the pursuit they shot a gun at my friend (missed thankfully)! The 2nd time(feb/2015) we went for dinner, one of our group returned home immediately (not feeling well) only to stumble across 2 thieves leaving our rental. He pursued one, physical altercation ensued and he recovered 2 bags, but the other thief escaped with most of our important belongings. If visiting you need to take serious precautions! We tried....our safe was pried open, our friends safe was pried off the cement floor and taken. Take valuables in back pack out at night, separate passport from any money. Good Luck!
